Brake Job, Rear (Drum)

Description: Replace the rear friction materials and reface the rear drums. The friction material (on a shoe platform) squeezes against the drum when the brake is applied to slow the car to a stop. Over time, with usage the shoe wears thin. The drums can become worn due to contact and heat. Machining (scraping or cutting so it is smooth and true) of the drums is allowable within specification, but if the thickness of the drum becomes too thin or the surface is scored or warped, they will need to be replaced. Depending on vehicle type, replacement may be the only option. For more information, please refer to brake system maintenance.
